Exchange Students

Based on the exchange agreements, we accept short-term exchange students from our partner institutions all over the world.


Requirement

  • ?Applicants must be enrolled as a regular student at a partner university and the graduation must be after the end of this program at University of Tsukuba.
  • ?The college, school, or program applicants wish to pursue at University of Tsukuba must be within the scope of the student exchange agreement.
  • ?Applicants must be nominated by their home university.

Student Status

Exchange Students(Tokubetsu Chokogakusei)

Exchange students (Tokubetsu Chokogakusei) are undergraduate students or graduate students from other universities who wish to attend courses at the University of Tsukuba. Their admission is granted upon mutual consultation between the two universities. Exchange students can earn credits if they pass the required examinations, and credit transfer is also available depending on the system at their home universities. Exchange students should confirm the credit transfer arrangements with the International Office at their home universities before applying for the exchange programs at the University of Tsukuba.

Exchange Research Students (Tokubetsu Kenkyugakusei)

Exchange research students (Tokubetsu Kenkyugakusei) are students of other universities, with which the University of Tsukuba has agreements, who are receiving guidance from supervisors at the graduate level at the University of Tsukuba.

Purpose of study ?To attend classes and earn credits.
?Possible to earn credits for courses taken at the University of Tsukuba.
* Class attendance for more than 600 minutes(8 periods) per week is required.
?To conduct research under the guidance of Tsukuba's academic advisor.
?Not possible to earn credits.
* Research activity for more than 600 minutes per week is required.
Period One or two semesters from April or October
* One semester consists of A, B and C module.
Applicants can choose AB or ABC module as their study period.

AB module:Courses offered in the C module are not available.
ABC module:Courses offered in the C module must be taken.
Only Japanese Language courses offered by CEGLOC can be taken (no credit given)
Auditing may be possible with the approval of the class instructor.
Scholarship JASSO scholarship is the only financial support that we can offer to applicants. Students may apply for the scholarship when applying to this program. However, only a hadful of students are eligible for the scholarship. We recommend considering financial support provided by home univerisities or countries when self-payment of living expenses is difficult.
Notes ?Exchange student is unable to choose Degree Program in Business Sciences / Law School Program / MBA Program in International Business. Also, the courses offered by these degree programs are unable to be taken.
?Undergraduate students are unable to take courses for graduate students offered by Degree Programs. Graduate students are unable to take courses for undergraduate students offered by School/College.
