University of Tsukuba started the Special Program for Ukrainian Students in 2022, and since then 42 students have been accepted and arrived in Japan. As of December 1, 2024, 31 students are registered at the University: 23 as non-degree students and eight as degree-students. The University has decided to extend the period of support for the Ukrainian students until the end of March 2025, and has been supporting them for their job-hunting and/or their studying in order to enroll as full-time students.
On the occasion of the third year of the Special Program, the Ukrainian students held a gathering to express their gratitude at the Community Station, Global Village, on Monday, December 2, inviting the people who have supported them on and outside campus.
About 50 people participated in this gathering including President, Vice-Presidents, faculty members, administrators and 10 organizations from outside. The gathering started with a traditional Ukrainian dance by the students wearing folk costume, and after the dance, President NAGATA Kyosuke expressed his gratitude and expectation toward the Ukrainian students, and thanks toward the various participants who have been supporting them. Then, the participants listened to the greetings from Mr. KAMIYA Keiichi from The Nippon Foundation and Mr. TOSAKA Fumitaka from the Ibaraki Prefectural Government.
After that, two Ukrainian students expressed their gratitude: one in 必威体育_足彩比分直播-娱乐app官网 and the other one in Japanese. They said how much they were pleased at the opportunity of continuing study and how much they were grateful for the various supports from Japan for Ukrainian students. They closed their talks with the wish that they would make endeavors for next steps with the experiences in the University in mind as lifelong treasures.
In the latter half of the event, a social gathering time was settled, and the students served Ukrainian dishes such as borscht which they cooked. The atmosphere was very warm, and they could directly express their thanks to the people who have given a great deal of supports.
